A son's thank you

Dear Lauren,

I just made a donation to your spring fundraising appeal for the Iris Music Project, in memory of my Mom.

No donation (or words) could properly express the gratitude that I and my sisters feel towards Iris Music Project for the incredible gifts you gave to our mother over the past nearly 4 years. From the moment that she (reluctantly, to say the least) arrived in the summer of 2016, the music that you provided was her number one joy, day to day and week to week. She wasn’t so interested in movies, crafts, exercise classes, or topical discussions, but your music, be it via slideshows, open rehearsals, concerts, sing-alongs, or resident showcases – she never missed. We also couldn’t help noticing that the presentations were not just formal listening sessions, but interactive, loving and joyous experiences, where you knew everyone’s names and encouraged them to participate, where possible. Even beyond that, how could one not notice the caring that went into the weekly visits that IMP musicians made to my mother’s apartment to chat and learn the ukulele together.

My sisters and I can never thank you enough. Our infinite sadness that Mom is gone, is nearly matched by the joy at the gifts you and your colleagues have brought to the community.
