Erin Murphy Snedecor

Cellist, Winter Growth Olney

Erin Murphy Snedecor is a classically trained cellist who thrives at the intersection of tradition and experimentation. As a freelancer in the DC area, she regularly performs with orchestras like the Wolf Trap Orchestra and Annapolis Symphony, and frequently appears in the pit at Signature Theater and the National Theater.

Erin is also a co-founder of several boundary-pushing ensembles, including the contemporary chamber group Balance Campaign, immersive performance collective earspace, genre-fluid duo En Route, and the event-focused District Strings.

Outside of the classical world, Erin is known for her ability to perform with any ensemble of rock, folk, pop, bluegrass, and whatever-you-can-think-of in between. She is the cellist and vocalist of indie rock band Pompeii Graffiti and the Americana/folk duo Black Rhinoceros, and experiments with electroacoustic textures in her solo project Zooxanthellae.

Erin is a graduate of Ithaca College and the University of Maryland, College Park, and was a 2023 Strathmore Artist in Residence.
