Program Highlight
Fantazye, June 2019
We live in hope of bright tomorrows. We live together and find our way. We live by helping one another, And make the best of every living day.
You’ve made us a place. It’s full of love and grace. Our music is here. We rejoice without fear.
In the fall of 2017, Iris Piano Trio commissioned Fantazye from composer Kevin McKee. Inspired by the work, a resident of the CESLC embarked on a year-long project to write a chorus part. The lyrics (above), were premiered in June, 2019.
The One-on-One Principle
Personal, direct connections are an important part of all Iris Music Project residencies. We believe that these relationships, fostered and developed through music, are the key to true community transformation. Approximately 1/3 of residency time is devoted to one-on-one experiences. Listen here to Yo-Yo Ma’s recent call to action for all artists to include these one-on-one experiences as part of their practice.
